A Memo to Parents

Parents are a child's first and most important teachers. By the time a child goes to school many of the basic developmental stages have already occurred. Kindermusik establishes skills that may have been overlooked - age appropriate music, singing, and rhythms and in later programmes the reading of music. In the classes for babies and toddlers (Village and Our Time) the presence of a parent or caregiver is imperative. The educator demonstrates how to interact and help the development of your child. In Imagine That!, the parents or caregivers attend for the last 15 minutes, where the children practice their activities. All classes have Home Materials to help you enjoy the Kindermusik experience at home. It is not always the mothers and helpers who come with the children. Several dads & grandparents regularly bring the children. Wear comfortable clothes and be ready to join in, these classes are about participation!

Helping your child during the Kindermusik Class

  • Please wear socks in the classroom for hygiene reasons.
  • Please wear comfortable clothes, as you will be joining in the activities!
  • Please turn off your mobile phones, so that your child has 100% of your attention during the class.
  • Kindermusik classes are a unique time for you and your child. Children love the classes because they have your undivided attention. If you need to discuss some personal matters with another mother/helper attending the same class, please wait until after the class, so as not to disturb other parents and children.
  • We ask that only one adult attends with each child to ensure the classroom is spacious enough for your child to move around and avoid over-crowdedness. If, for any reason, two adults need to be with one child, please talk to the teacher to make arrangements.
  • Children will need to have their hands free to hold musical instruments. Please leave toys and drinks inside your baby bag and put the bags in the spaces provided.
  • Children sometimes become distracted, so you will probably have to show your child how to hold the musical instruments safely and sit in a circle. If your child does become distracted, gently redirect them back to the group by whispering "music time" and quietly guiding your child back to the activity. If your child is having a hard time in the group please take them outside for some calming time.
  • Its always reassuring for a child to know that they are doing something well. I encourage parents and caregivers to praise their child throughout the class when a child does well.
  • Please do NOT bring food and drinks into the class as they are a distraction to other children and spilled drinks or food can cause accidents. If your child needs a drink please go outside.
  • Kindermusik Village babies need a soft towel or blanket to lie on during class.
  • Village and Our Time classes require one-on-one with the parent or caregiver. The presence of an unaccompanied twin or sibling can present problems and it is wise that suitable arrangements are made before class begins.
  • Imagine That! & Young Child students should go to the toilet before the start of class, and parents/caregivers are encouraged to attend the last fifteen minutes of the Imagine That! & Young Child class to discuss the weeks' home activities.
